A Comprehensive Assessment Includes

• Taking a detailed history of concerns from the child (if appropriate),
• Obtaining history from family, school or other settings,
• Background family history,
• Birth history,
• Past medical history,
• Developmental history
• Examination (Physical, Mental Health and Developmental if necessary) of child.

Standardized test (like Griffiths) may be necessary for some children.
If your child's issues are complex, the initial visits are taken up with history taking and the doctor may not draw any conclusions, or discuss any management until subsequent visits. From these consultations, the doctor will write a letter summarising the information, conclusions and management plan. The report will only be sent to legal guardian by email besides the referring Practitioner.
Diagnosis of complex neurodevelopmental conditions relies on comprehensive history and excluding other medical conditions and assessing for comorbidities. There is no single tool or test available for diagnosis of these conditions. Experience, training and knowledge of the Developmental Paediatrician is crucial in management of your child.

Doctors Can Help You Understand

• Whether there is a problem or not
• If there is a problem, what type of problem and how serious it is
• The medical reasons for the problem (and whether your child is likely to grow out of it)
• The types of interventions that are most likely to be successful (and what is not likely to help)
• The role of medical tests (such as MRI, blood tests)
• The role of medical treatments (such as medications)
